Mentor Guiding Nonprofit Staffer on Grant Writing

Strengthening
Otero County

Investing in the Infrastructure of Impact

Sacramento Mountains Arrows

At the Sacramento Mountains Foundation, we believe that a strong community depends on strong organizations. While traditional funding often focuses on short-term programs, our commitment to capacity building is an investment in the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of the nonprofit sector. We don’t just fund the work; we help strengthen the people and systems that make the work possible.

What is Capacity Building?

Capacity building is the strategic process of strengthening an organization’s structure. It is about providing the tools, training, and resources local leaders need to fulfill their missions more efficiently and create a lasting impact across Otero County. When we invest in an organization’s infrastructure, we create a multiplier effect that benefits our entire region for years to come.

Technical Assistance & Support

We provide hands-on support and strategic resources to help Otero County nonprofits and local partners grow from the inside out. Our goal is to meet our partners where they are and provide the specific expertise needed to reach the next level of success.

  • Organizational Infrastructure: We offer guidance on governance, operational systems, and startup assistance for emerging nonprofits.

  • Leadership Development: We invest in the people rooted in our communities, providing access to professional training and national executive searches.

  • Grant Writing Assistance: The Foundation has an established grant writer on staff to assist local nonprofits — free of charge — in securing funding for their projects.

  • The Annual Nonprofit Summit: Each year, we convene nonprofit leaders for a full-day conference featuring world-class speakers and training in fundraising, financial management, and legal essentials.

Empowering Local Leaders

Our technical assistance has helped local nonprofits secure over $1,000,000 in outside funding. By focusing on capacity, we are ensuring that Otero County’s organizations are resilient, adaptable, and empowered to build beneficial services and resources for local communities.
