Sacramento Mountains Foundation
Invested in Otero County

Sacramento Mountains Foundation was born out of a profound commitment to the people of Otero County. Our story began with the sale of the Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center to CHRISTUS Health. While this hospital conversion provided the initial funding for our work, it also gave us a unique opportunity to look beyond the four walls of a healthcare facility and ask: How can we best support the long-term health and vitality of our entire community?

A Vision for the Region
The Foundation is more than a healthcare-adjacent funder. We are Otero County’s "go-to" resource hub. We believe that improving lives starts by meeting communities exactly where they are. By bringing together people, ideas, and resources, we act as a catalyst for community leadership and engagement.
Our approach is different because we believe in the abundance of our region. The Foundation’s philosophy is based on an empowerment mindset, known as Asset Based Community Development. We don’t focus on what might be missing; we focus on the incredible assets, talents, and skills already present in our neighbors and communities.
To improve Otero County, we invest in the organizational infrastructure and leadership of local nonprofits and governmental partners by building capacity. We aren't just funding programs; we are strengthening the very systems that make Otero County a place where families thrive, economies grow, and residents prosper.
Together, we are building a path to success that is designed, driven, and powered from within.
