Investing in
Our Shared Future

Partner With Us
The Sacramento Mountains Foundation serves as a dedicated steward of the community assets built over 77 years of local vision and labor. Our investment strategy is designed to move beyond transactional funding, focusing instead on long-term capacity building and the sustained health of our region. By concentrating our resources into three core pillars, we aim to strengthen the regional fabric and empower the people and organizations dedicated to Otero County’s growth.
Our Pillars of Investment

Health & Wellness
We believe that quality of life begins with accessible, reliable care. Healthcare remains at the heart of our mission as we look beyond hospital walls to support the total wellbeing of our residents.
-
Direct Healthcare Support: Providing essential medical equipment and capacity support for regional providers like CHRISTUS Southern New Mexico.
-
Physician Recruitment & Advocacy: Partnering with statewide initiatives like Patient-Led New Mexico to advocate for reforms (such as HB 99) that help recruit and retain healthcare professionals in rural communities.
-
Behavioral Health: Funding evidence-based programs like The Seven Challenges to support adolescent mental health and substance-use intervention.
-
Patient Safety & Access: Ensuring local facilities have the infrastructure and workforce development needed to provide safe, high-quality care.

Community Capacity Building
Strong organizations build stronger communities. We invest in the "operating systems" of the nonprofits Otero County depends on, moving beyond transactional funding to provide long-term stability.
-
Nonprofit Summits: Hosting annual, full-day intensive conferences featuring experts to elevate local skills in fundraising, legal compliance, and financial management.
-
Strategic Planning & Guidance: Helping emerging and established organizations with legal filings, board governance, and long-term sustainability planning.
-
Professional Training: Offering free webinars and workshops on donor engagement and storytelling to help local partners secure national funding.
-
Organizational Development: Funding professional searches for executive leadership and supporting the revival of civic programs like Leadership Otero.

Youth Development & Education
Investing in our children is an investment in the future of our region. We partner with educators and families to expand opportunities for growth and exploration.
-
TeachOtero Classroom Grants: Providing direct, accessible grants of up to $1,000 to educators for supplemental resources, creative projects, and classroom tools.
-
School & Student Support: Funding school wellness initiatives, literacy programs, and food backpack programs to ensure every student is ready to learn.
-
Student Enrichment: Expanding access to STEAM competitions, robotics, mentoring partnerships, and career exploration opportunities like NMSU-A Career Quest.
Do You Have a Vision for Our Community?
We believe that the greatest possibilities come together when we work together. While these pillars guide our primary focus, we know that the best ideas often come directly from our neighbors. If you have a project or a vision that could improve the quality of life in Otero County, we want to hear about it. Whether your idea is a small neighborhood improvement or a large-scale community partnership, our door is open to listen, collaborate, and explore what we can build together.
